Congratulations to our 2026 grade 8 class, which had a combined total of 87 years of experience at Soundview!

Dear Soundview families,

What a remarkable year it has been! As we close the chapter on another school year, I am filled with gratitude and pride for all that our students, faculty, staff, and families have accomplished together. This week, we celebrated our students’ growth in academics, the arts, leadership, and personal development, while also reflecting on the meaningful relationships and strong sense of community that make Soundview such a special place.

One of the highlights of the week was celebrating the graduation of the Class of 2026 on Wednesday evening. If you have never been to a Soundview graduation, you should. They are always inspiring. Our graduates share their Community Projects and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and confidence they have developed throughout their Soundview journey. And our faculty share thoughtful, funny, and poignant reflections about each student. These reflections remind me every year just how well our faculty know your students. We are incredibly proud of our graduates; we will miss their kindness and compassion, and are excited to hear about their next adventures. Thank you to our entire community for partnering with us to nurture ethical, rigorous, and compassionate learners.

We concluded the year in the forest with our beloved Achievement Ceremony. Together, we recognized our Class Captains, IB MYP award recipients, Edmonds Arts Festival artists, and the yearbook cover contest winner. Students reflected on the year through our Move-Up tradition, while our Early Childhood students honored their Grade 8 learning buddies with leis and heartfelt well wishes. During the Achievement Ceremony, we also celebrate and thank those who are moving on from Soundview. This year, we extended special appreciation to Ms. Laura, Mr. Ryan, and Ms. Nikita for their dedication, warmth, and commitment to our school. Their impact on our community has been significant, and while they will be missed, I have no doubt we will see them around campus in the years ahead. Accompanied by the beautiful music of our orchestra, it was a fitting and meaningful celebration of the year and a wonderful reflection of the Soundview experience.

On June 12, 1929, Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany. One of the most recognized voices of the Holocaust, Anne's story continues to educate and inspire people around the world. On her 13th birthday, she received a diary as a gift. Just one month later, Anne and her family went into hiding in Amsterdam to escape Nazi persecution during World War II. In the pages of that diary, she documented her hopes, fears, challenges, and dreams while living in hiding.

Published after the war as The Diary of a Young Girl, Anne's writings have become one of the most important firsthand accounts of the Holocaust. Her words provide a powerful reminder of the human cost of hatred, discrimination, and intolerance, while also highlighting the resilience of the human spirit. More than 75 years later, Anne Frank's legacy continues to encourage empathy, understanding, and a commitment to justice and human dignity. Read about .

The Power of Student Voice: Grade 5 Exhibition!Guest UserFri, 05 Jun 2026 23:00:12 +0000/communication/the-power-of-student-voice-grade-5-exhibition6000ee7dc3493938686c6005:623ccea2e148175a667476f3:6a1daa80546605283d7ba06a

Congratulations to our ethical, inquisitive, and compassionate grade 5 students on an outstanding Exhibition! Throughout the day, they confidently shared their research, ideas, and learning with every student in the school, culminating in an inspiring evening showcase for families and community members. Their thoughtful exploration of important global issues, combined with their passion and poise, was truly impressive. The future is bright, and it is certainly in good hands.

Dear Soundview family,

Watching our students grow from the first day of school to these final weeks is one of the greatest privileges of leading our community. This year has been filled with meaningful learning, steady growth, and a genuine sense of care that defines our school. Thank you for entrusting us with your children’s education and for your continued partnership throughout this year.

On Thursday, our Grade 5 students put their learning, growth, and care on display for our entire community at the  PYP Exhibition. The Exhibition is the culmination of the IB Primary Years Program and requires students to explore global issues. Our students presented with confidence and inspired our community to take meaningful action. Thank you to those who joined us to support them, and to Mr. MacCully and the teaching team for their guidance and mentorship. We are very proud of their hard work. Our future is in good hands!

Staffing Updates
³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s leadership team and Board of Trustees are responsible for financial stewardship to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of our school. Today, I am writing to share a difficult step we are taking to align our operations with our current student population. In response to a decline in enrollment for the upcoming school year, we made the hard decision to reduce our administration and faculty numbers. Saying goodbye to members of our team is incredibly painful, as every person here contributes to our culture and community.

This year, we say goodbye to Laura S., Nikita, and Ryan. Laura will be staying home with her new baby boy, and we will not be hiring to fill her position. We will miss the energy, warmth, and incredible organization that she brought to school each day and shared with her students and colleagues. Our new administrative structure will not include a Director of Technology or Director of Advancement. This decision is strictly a reflection of our current financial and enrollment reality, and in no way speaks to the performance or dedication of Nikita and Ryan. Nikita inherited a challenging database situation and brought order and functionality where there was little. She tackles the systems and hardware behind the scenes to ensure the student and teacher experience is easy and reliable, and keeps our school running smoothly. Nikita is also a trusted resource for faculty, staff, and students, offering technology support with patience, expertise, and a genuine willingness to help. Ryan’s contributions went well beyond fundraising. He built meaningful relationships with students, families, faculty, and staff, bringing positivity, enthusiasm, and a collaborative spirit to everything he did. Under his leadership, Soundview achieved record levels of Annual Fund participation and fundraising, while the Spring Benefit grew into one of the school’s most successful and anticipated events. We are deeply grateful for their dedication, professionalism, and many contributions to our students and school community. They will be greatly missed, and we wish Laura, Nikita, and Ryan all the best!

We’re thrilled to begin celebrating a major milestone: Soundview turns 30 next year! To help mark this special anniversary, we’re launching a community contest to design a commemorative Soundview 30th anniversary logo.

One more thing…
On June 5, 1956, a federal court ruled in the landmark case Browder v. Gayle that racial segregation on public buses was unconstitutional. The decision came after the historic Montgomery Bus Boycott, sparked by the courageous actions of Rosa Parks and supported by community leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr.

This ruling was a major victory for the Civil Rights Movement and helped dismantle legalized segregation in public transportation across the United States. It demonstrated the power of peaceful protest, collective action, and the courts to advance civil rights, paving the way for future legislation and progress toward greater equality and justice for all Americans.

Thanks to students across all grade levels who created banners, signs, and decorations to help welcome families to campus today!

As the school year winds down, our days continue to be filled with learning, creativity, leadership, and memorable experiences across campus. One of today’s highlights was our Grade 8 Community Project presentations, an important capstone experience in each student’s Soundview journey. Through these thoughtful service-learning projects, students identified real-world needs and explored ways to make a positive impact in their communities. It was inspiring to see the care, dedication, and creativity our students brought to their work.

Earlier this week, our Early Childhood through Grade 4 students participated in Move-Up Day, giving them an exciting preview of next year’s classrooms and teachers. There was plenty of enthusiasm and anticipation as students explored what lies ahead for the upcoming school year.

The Home Stretch: End-of-Year Excitement AheadGuest UserFri, 22 May 2026 23:00:04 +0000/communication/the-home-stretch-end-of-year-excitement-ahead6000ee7dc3493938686c6005:623ccea2e148175a667476f3:6a0b4ffcdfc0946c710aaae4

To all members of our community with loved ones who have served in the military, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and warmest wishes for a meaningful and peaceful Memorial Day as we honor and remember those who made sacrifices in service to our country.

Dear Soundview families,

It’s hard to believe there are only twelve days left in the school year! This time of year always seems to arrive so quickly. Amidst the countdowns and end-of-year celebrations, it’s incredibly common for kids to experience a bit of a wobble or unease. While we usually associate summer with fun and relaxation, the shift away from school can actually be quite tough on some children. Sensory overload and the upcoming shifts to routines are common factors. At school, we try to balance consistency and routine with opportunities to reflect and celebrate the learning, growth, friendships, and memorable experiences our students have shared throughout the year.

A very special thank you to the Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA) and all of the parent volunteers whose hard work and support helped make the MYP Spring Fling such a success!

One of the highlights this week was our Early Childhood-Grade 4 Spring Showcase, where families and friends explored classrooms and hallways as our youngest students proudly shared their projects, classwork, and learning experiences. It was wonderful to see the confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm our students brought to the event.

This week also included a special opportunity for Mrs. Higgins’ orchestra students, who performed for a new audience outside of school at the Lynnwood Senior Center. Congratulations to all of the students for representing Soundview so beautifully and sharing their hard work through music.

One more thing…
On May 22, 1843, nearly 1,000 pioneers set out west along the Oregon Trail in what became known as the “Great Migration.” Traveling by wagon across thousands of miles of rugged terrain, these settlers journeyed toward the Oregon Territory in search of land, opportunity, and a new future.

This historic movement helped shape the expansion of the United States and accelerated settlement in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. The Oregon Trail became a powerful symbol of determination, exploration, and westward expansion in American history, while also profoundly impacting Indigenous communities whose lands and ways of life were disrupted by increasing migration and settlement. .

We’ve got spirit, yes we do! We’ve got spirit, how about you?

Our students, faculty, and staff had an incredible time celebrating Spirit Week on campus! From creative outfits to unforgettable moments, the week was filled with energy, laughter, and school pride. Be sure to check out all the amazing photos below capturing the fun and community spirit!

Dear Soundview families,

Spirit Week always makes me smile! Students and staff embraced each day’s theme with creativity, enthusiasm, and plenty of school spirit. I had some fun (and funny) conversations with students as they tried to get their heads around “Retro Day.” A shout-out to the families and teachers who tried to explain the fashion trends of the past!

This morning, we wrapped up our final Community Coffee of the school year with conversation and connection. As we were discussing the upcoming assembly, folks shared stories and appreciation about the multiple opportunities that their children have had to build public speaking skills and develop increased confidence communicating in a wide variety of settings. Our Early Childhood students (with some of their Grade 8 Learning Buddies) demonstrated exactly what the group was talking about. The Wiggly Worms were confident and articulate as they led the final assembly of the year centered on the learner profile trait of “knowledgeable.” It was especially exciting to hear our Grade 5 students introduce their upcoming PYP Exhibition project topics to the entire school, giving the community a preview of the important learning and inquiry ahead. And, Ms. Armstrong and Mr. Travis announced the winners of this year’s poetry contest.

Congratulations to Penny D. (K), Samantha H. (1/2), Deven M. (1/2), Emmie M. (3/4), Harrison B.-J. (3/4), Eveylnn N. (5), Arya T. (MYP), Ms. Molly, and Ms. Vu!

We closed out the week with the Middle School Spring Fling, which brought plenty of energy and excitement to campus. Students enjoyed an evening filled with dancing, games, snacks, laughter, and time together with friends. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and impressive dance moves! Be sure to look for photos from the Spring Fling on our website next week!

This Week at Soundview: Learning and Life on Campus!Guest UserFri, 08 May 2026 22:00:17 +0000/communication/this-week-at-soundview-learning-and-life-on-campus6000ee7dc3493938686c6005:623ccea2e148175a667476f3:69f8ed37fd1eeb1d6c1e1e1b

Our faculty and staff felt truly uplifted during Teacher Appreciation Week! Thank you to our incredible SPGA and the entire Soundview community for coming together to recognize and celebrate the care, dedication, and impact of our educators.

Dear Soundview family,

This week at Soundview, we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week, filled with thoughtful moments that recognized and uplifted our incredible educators. From coffee deliveries and stocked snack stations to a delicious pizza lunch and heartfelt notes of gratitude, it was a week full of appreciation. A very special thank you to the Soundview Parent and Guardian Association (SPGA) for their care, creativity, and dedication in making this week so meaningful. Your efforts truly made an impact on our faculty and staff!

On Wednesday, we welcomed the chairs of our Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) accreditation team for their preliminary visit, and they declared that we are on track for a successful full team visit in November. They met with members of our staff, faculty, and Board of Trustees and experienced firsthand what makes Soundview so special. Hearing Julie and Yvan rave about the warmth and engagement of our community, the dedication of our team, and the “good vibes” on campus filled me with even more pride for Soundview. Families can support this process by completing the anonymous , helping us better understand your experience, celebrate our strengths, and identify areas for continued improvement.

It was also a full week of learning, exploration, and memorable experiences for our students. Mr. MacCully’s Grade 5 class visited the Edmonds Library to deepen their research in preparation for their upcoming Exhibitions. Our middle school students partnered with Silverkite Community Arts and traveled to Chateau Pacific Senior Living for a memory box workshop connected to their design unit. The week concluded with a lively performance of Interstellar Cinderella, presented by the Kamiak Traveling Children’s Show, a wonderful way to bring the community together through the arts.

On May 8, 2010, Betty White made television history when she became the oldest person ever to host Saturday Night Live at age 88. Her appearance came after a grassroots fan campaign, proving the enduring power of her wit, charm, and cross-generational appeal.

Dear Soundview family,

I wanted to take a moment to recognize that today is , International Workers’ Day, a day rooted in the labor struggles of working people and one that continues to honor the value of collective action. For many, May Day is both a celebration of workers and a reminder of the ongoing efforts to support fair treatment, strong communities, and social responsibility. Today, workers, students, and families across the country are gathering in support of one another, their communities, and services that sustain us. At Soundview, we want to reaffirm our commitment to being a community where all are welcomed, respected, and valued, and where a diversity of perspectives can be held with care and respect.

On campus yesterday, we enjoyed the annual Spring Concert featuring the Grades 5-8 bands and the orchestra. The concert was a celebration of their hard work and passion, with several inspiring duets and courageous solo performances. Congratulations to the students and Mrs. Higgins for putting on a wonderful concert for all of us to see.

It’s always a joy to see our students connecting and interacting across campus, especially during Learning Buddies time. The beautiful weather this week made those moments even more special!

Last week, we said a heartfelt goodbye to our Kindergarten Associate Teacher, Laura Simplicio, as she began an exciting new chapter. Laura is expecting her first child any day now and will be stepping away from the classroom to take on her new role as a full-time, primary caregiver at home. While we are so happy for her and this next season of life, she will be deeply missed at Soundview. Laura brought warmth, positivity, and genuine care to her students each day, and her presence in the classroom made a lasting impact on both children and colleagues. We are incredibly grateful for all she contributed to our community.

Coming up, students may notice a special visitor on campus for the remainder of the school year and through the summer. From time to time, our intern (and Soundview alum!) River will be bringing her Bernedoodle, Juniper, to campus. Juniper is a hypoallergenic working service dog and an important support companion, and we’re excited to welcome her as part of our community. Students may have opportunities to pet Juniper, but please remember to always have them ask River for permission first before approaching or interacting with her. Thank you for helping us create a respectful and supportive environment for both River and Juniper. Please reach out if you have any questions.

NWAIS Accreditation
The Northwest Association of Independent Schools accreditation process continues, and we look forward to welcoming the chairs of our visiting team for their preliminary visit on May 6. We’re excited to share Soundview and gather feedback as part of our ongoing growth. Families can support this work by completing the anonymous , which helps us reflect on strengths, better understand your experience, and identify areas for improvement.

Dress & Appearance
With warmer weather here, it’s a good time to revisit our dress and appearance guidelines to help keep students comfortable, safe, and ready for the school day. Clothing should fit appropriately and support classroom, art, and physical activities, and younger students should wear clothing they can manage independently.

For safety reasons, open-toed shoes, sandals, clogs, flip-flops, platform shoes, high heels, and shoes with wheels are not permitted, except on specially designated days or for performances. All students in Grades K–8 should also wear sneakers on their designated PHE days. Thank you for helping support a safe and active learning environment.

Celebrating the Heart of Soundview: Our Teachers!
Lots of Activity and Energy Across Campus!Guest UserFri, 24 Apr 2026 22:00:42 +0000/communication/23j6oukpbttnbcilmmgk1eu3hdm0ix6000ee7dc3493938686c6005:623ccea2e148175a667476f3:69e800e3a63327313eb064b8

Dear Soundview family,

It is with great excitement and deep gratitude that I write my first weekly letter to you as Head of School. I am truly honored by the opportunity to serve this remarkable community defined by its warmth, shared purpose, and unwavering commitment to students. From my very first moments here, it has been clear that Soundview is a special place, and I feel privileged to be part of it. Thank you to the Board of Trustees and the entire Soundview community for your support, and I will work each day to honor the trust you have placed in me.

  • If you missed the announcement from the Board of Trustees earlier this week, you can find it on our website.

It was an especially busy week on campus. The Grade 3/4 classes welcomed guests every day this week to talk about their experiences moving around the world. As a part of their inquiry into human migration, they are exploring the factors that push and pull people to move. Thank you to the folks who shared their stories! Our students would love to hear from additional guest speakers and learn from their experiences. If you are interested, please reach out directly to Ms. Tomi or Ms. Noelle.

On Wednesday, Mr. MacCully joined our Community Coffee to lead a discussion about the PYP Exhibition. The Exhibition is the culminating experience for our Grade 5 students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they gained throughout their experience in the Primary Years Program (PYP). Students will identify a global issue they are passionate about, design an inquiry to learn more about it, and take action to address the challenge. They will share their projects on June 4, and all are welcome! Our all-school assembly, led by the kindergarten class, focused on Earth Day and the IB trait of the month, “t³󾱲԰ì±ð°ù.” The students highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship and encouraged thoughtful reflection on how each individual can contribute positively to our planet.

Also on Wednesday, our grade 5 students celebrated Earth Month in North City Park! They participated in an environmental work party to help push the boundaries of a few of their sites. The students worked on restoring sections of the park by removing invasive species and planting native plants. This experience also equips them with valuable skills they can bring back to our Soundview forest. Discover more about the work party at .

Yesterday, Mrs. Armstrong hosted a wonderful Book Club gathering in the PAC Loft, where parents and children came together to read, reflect, and engage in thoughtful guided discussion. Grades 1/2 explored Bog Myrtle by Sid Sharp, while Grades 3–8 discussed New Kid by Jerry Craft. It was a meaningful opportunity for families to connect through stories and shared conversation.

Announcing our Next Head of SchoolGuest UserMon, 20 Apr 2026 15:48:26 +0000/communication/announcing-our-next-head-of-school6000ee7dc3493938686c6005:623ccea2e148175a667476f3:69e649bc9e96e5408bc736f5

Dear Soundview Community,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am honored and excited to share that Chrissy Sinclair has been officially appointed as the next Head of School at Soundview, effective starting today. Chrissy’s leadership experience, her deep knowledge of the IB curriculum, and her unquestioned passion for and dedication to Soundview make her a uniquely qualified and conclusive choice for ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s next Head of School.

Chrissy exemplifies the qualities Soundview seeks in its next head and her leadership experience puts her in a strong position to carry out the critical work Soundview needs now. Chrissy’s Soundview roots run deep. She has been part of the Soundview community since 2010, serving in many roles, including teacher, Lower School Head, Director of Enrollment, and Assistant Head of School. She is also the parent of two Soundview graduates. Chrissy has done extensive preparation for the work of Head of School, including participating in the NWAIS Pathways to Leadership program and the NWAIS Leadership Institute. She also serves as a board member for another independent school.

As interim head of school, Chrissy has led the work towards completing our NWAIS accreditation process, an incredible milestone for the school. She has also continued to shepherd the work of the strategic and financial plan. In her application materials, Chrissy wrote that she is “prepared to lead Soundview from a place of deep institutional knowledge and a willingness to identify opportunities for innovation to meet the changing needs of today's students and families.” We saw throughout the search process evidence of what Chrissy identified as some of her many strengths: “I know our students, I value the partnerships I have built with families, I trust our faculty, and I am fully aligned with the Board’s vision for the future.” Chrissy told us she is “excited to dream together about what the future holds.” We couldn’t agree more.

This announcement follows a deeply thoughtful and inclusive vetting process that was over 18 months in the making. In October 2024, the Board learned that Chris Watson would be departing at the end of the 2024–25 school year. In response, and in alignment with the existing succession plan, the Board appointed Chrissy as interim head of school and formed a transition support committee.

At the January 2025 State of the School meeting, the Board  for appointing a permanent head of school. That process was reiterated in the October 2025 State of the School meeting and in December 2025, a search committee of the board was formed. The search committee was tasked by the board with organizing, directing, and supervising all aspects of the Head Search process, including consultant engagement, candidate evaluation, and bringing to the board its nomination for the individual to serve as the next Head of School.

The Search Committee selected Joan Beauregard of Educators Collaborative as the search consultant in January 2026. The first step in working with Joan was to design what is known as an internal vetting process, which is what happens when a school has an internal candidate they want to consider. This process follows the same rigor and evaluation bar as a national search, and is a process which Joan has extensive experience conducting.

In February, Joan visited Soundview and held listening sessions with students, faculty, staff, parents, and trustees and conducted a community-wide survey to gather input from all constituencies about ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s strengths, needs, and opportunities. From that work, she helped the search committee develop ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s . This statement provided the criteria the search committee used throughout its process to identify and evaluate ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s next head.

What emerged from the community feedback was a clear consensus of ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s strengths and the priorities for the next head. ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s next leader needs to capitalize on the rigor and benefits of the IB curriculum as well as our strong sense of community and school spirit while ensuring the school’s financial stability, recruiting and retaining the high-quality teachers Soundview is known for, and enhancing the school’s facilities to meet the needs of our program. Additionally, the community sought a leader who is approachable, accessible, and collaborative.

The next stage in the process was to review Chrissy’s candidacy, following the same evaluation criteria that would be applied to an external candidate. This included a formal application, 90-minute panel interview, case study, and an extensive debrief process where the committee used bias-reduction techniques specifically designed for processes that include an internal candidate. At every stage of the process, the committee was impressed with Chrissy’s background, preparation, self-awareness, and vision for Soundview.

The Search Committee had the full support and funding from the Board to conduct a national search if the process pointed that way, but with Chrissy’s review process completed, it didn’t need to. The Committee recommended Chrissy’s appointment unanimously, and the Board approved it unanimously. We believe wholeheartedly that this is both the best choice and the right choice for Soundview.

We hope you will join us in our excitement for ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s next chapter and congratulate Chrissy on her much-deserved appointment!

Please see the  sharing some of her thoughts on her new role.

With best wishes,
Shawn Heidel

Smiles were everywhere as we welcomed our students back to campus this week!

Dear Soundview families,

Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope everyone had a restful and joyful week. It’s been wonderful to have our students and community back on campus. It was especially heartwarming to see so many smiling faces during our Spring Picture Day yesterday.

We kicked off the week with a meaningful and impactful Community Project presentation from our Grade 8 student, Hank, introducing Mental Health Week. During Monday morning’s assembly for Grades 1-8, Hank shared the purpose behind the week and outlined the daily themes and activities, including Mindful Monday, Talk It Out Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, and Feel Good Friday. As part of Mental Health Week, students chose with mental health themes. This allows people to see that they are not alone.  Bravo to Hank for his leadership in bringing this important topic to our community and for creating thoughtful opportunities to build awareness, connection, and positive well-being throughout the week.

It was also another week of field trips filled with exploration and learning. On Tuesday, our Grade 1/2 classes visited , where they explored the shift from traditional waste management to resource recovery and learned about sustainable practices that help reduce waste on a global scale. On Thursday, our Grade 8 students traveled to , gaining insight into responsible environmental practices and how the company uses 100% recycled materials to create tile and glass.

A Spectacular & Joyful Declamations!

It’s time once again for the Soundview Yearbook Cover Contest! See below for participation details and how your student(s) can submit their artwork.

Dear Soundview family,

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week and are settling into the rhythm of daylight savings time. Hard to believe spring is just around the corner, especially when you start the day with snow. The pure joy on children’s faces this morning was absolutely the best way to start the day!

This week, our middle school students have been hard at work rehearsing for Declamations next Thursday. Declamations is a Soundview tradition that brings me joy and demonstrates so many of the things that I value in a Soundview education and the Soundview community. Declamations is a student-produced theater production that requires risk-taking, collaboration, and communication. The skits are often funny, sometimes serious, and always brave. And I tell nervous students they are about to perform for the friendliest audience ever, and I often share a story about a parent in the audience who quietly prompted a very nervous 8th grader with the lines for his monologue from Macbeth. Our community shows up for each other. I invite you all to join me for Declamations next week to celebrate our confident and talented middle school students!

Spring Benefit Registration Deadline
We also have important and exciting news! The registration deadline for the Spring Benefit has been extended through Monday, March 16. We hope you will join us for this special evening. This year’s theme, The Next Chapter Starts With Us, reminds us that the future of Soundview is something we write together, and we want our community in the room to help make that happen.

Yearbook Cover Contest
Ms. Molly and the Yearbook Club are hosting ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s 13th Annual Yearbook Cover Contest, and all students are invited to participate! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to share their creativity and contribute to a lasting tribute to the school year. You can find details and submission guidelines .

Summer Camps
Still planning for summer? ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s inquiry-based, adventure-filled Summer Camps are open for students entering Early Childhood–Kindergarten and Grades 6–8, and are led by our own faculty and staff. Camps are also a great way for incoming students to become familiar with our campus and connect with teachers before the school year begins.

We are also excited to continue our partnership with Steve & Kate’s Camp, offering additional options for children ages 4–12. Camps are open to both Soundview families and the wider community, so feel free to invite friends. Space is limited, and we encourage you to register soon through our website.

One more thing…
On March 13, 1991, the documentary Paris Is Burning premiered in New York City, offering a powerful and intimate look into the underground ballroom scene of Harlem in the 1980s. Directed by Jennie Livingston, the film explored the lives of Black and Latino LGBTQ+ communities who created vibrant spaces of self-expression through drag, dance, fashion, and performance at a time when they faced widespread discrimination and marginalization.

The film holds lasting historical significance for bringing mainstream awareness to drag culture, chosen families, and the resilience of queer communities. Paris Is Burning introduced many viewers to the concept of “voguing,” the importance of ballroom houses, and the idea of identity as something that can be boldly created and celebrated. Its impact continues today, influencing art, fashion, and popular culture while honoring the voices and experiences of the people who built a culture rooted in pride, survival, and belonging. It’s been another fantastic week on campus, full of activity and capped off with an electric assembly!

Dear Soundview family,

I am proud to share that our Board of Trustees recently approved an updated Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. This is the culmination of a year of research and reflection by the Board, administration, and faculty to state what these words mean to 91ֱ²¥ and why belonging is essential for each individual within our community to thrive. Through this work, we were reminded of the power of the IB Learner Profile traits to provide a roadmap for the skills and mindsets needed to ensure a strong culture of belonging at Soundview. Please visit our website to read ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

Congrats to our Grade 1/2 Seals and Otters for a wonderful and successful assembly today! The Performing Arts Center was completely packed. Thank you to everyone for showing up to support our students. Today’s assembly highlighted Women’s History Month and the March International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile trait “Inquirer.” You can see photos from this event below.

On March 6, 1974, Helen Thomas was named White House bureau chief for United Press International (UPI), becoming the first woman to hold that position at a major wire service. A trailblazer in political journalism, Thomas had already built a respected career covering multiple presidential administrations, but this appointment marked a historic breakthrough in a field long dominated by men. At a time when women were still fighting for equal opportunity in newsrooms, Thomas’s promotion signaled a shift toward greater inclusion and visibility for women in political reporting. She became a prominent and persistent voice in the White House press corps, helping to open doors for future generations of women journalists and reshaping expectations about who could ask the toughest questions at the highest levels of government. .

One more thing…
On February 27, 1922, the Supreme Court of the United States upheld women’s voting rights in Leser v. Garnett, affirming the constitutionality of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The Court unanimously rejected arguments that the amendment had been improperly ratified, firmly establishing its legal standing.

This decision was historically significant because it protected the hard-won gains of the women’s suffrage movement and ensured that women’s right to vote could not be undermined by state-level challenges. By reinforcing the amendment’s legitimacy, the ruling strengthened women’s full participation in American democracy and marked a pivotal step toward greater gender equality under the law.

While the evening is an important fundraiser, it is also a joyful celebration of our community and a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of our children.

This year’s theme, “The Next Chapter Starts With Us,” reflects a pivotal moment for Soundview. It honors the strong foundation we have built together and calls on each of us to help shape what comes next. By supporting the Spring Benefit, you are investing in the programs, opportunities, and sense of belonging that define the Soundview experience, for today and for years to come. No matter how you choose to participate, there is a place for everyone in this next chapter.

We are also continuing to welcome event sponsors for those who wish to deepen their impact to help offset the cost of the event. Sponsorships help ensure that more of the funds raised directly benefit our students and programs. Your generosity helps us honor the extraordinary educators and students who make Soundview so special. Please reach out to Ryan Wasserman, Director of Advancement, to learn more.

Whether you plan to attend in person or support from afar, you can purchase tickets now or make a contribution today.

Together, we are Soundview, and together, the next chapter starts with us.

Warmly,
Chrissy Sinclair
Interim Head of School

Mid-Winter Break:Time to Rest, Recharge, and Reset!Guest UserSat, 14 Feb 2026 00:00:00 +0000/communication/mid-winter-breaktime-to-rest-recharge-and-reset6000ee7dc3493938686c6005:623ccea2e148175a667476f3:698a1b092431681cb50bba9c

Dear Soundview family,

I hope you’re heading into the weekend feeling energized after another lively week at Soundview! The campus was buzzing with excitement from the Seahawks Super Bowl win and the much-anticipated break. I missed seeing many of you on campus for our originally scheduled Community Coffee and Assembly this morning. Due to the high number of illnesses this week and resulting loss of practice time, we rescheduled for Friday, February 27, same time and format. Our Grade 3/4 students will be rested, well-rehearsed, and ready to go!

Momentum is also building for the Soundview Spring Benefit on March 28 at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, and we truly hope to see you there. This evening is both a celebration of our community and a critical fundraiser that directly supports our students. Ticket sales, auction bids, raffle tickets, and paddle raises all play an important role in making this event a success, and it simply wouldn’t be the same without our families.

As we look ahead, planning for the 2026–2027 school year is underway. Major dates for next year will be shared after the mid-winter break, with the full academic calendar to be published this spring. For planning purposes, Dolphin Day will be on Tuesday, September 8, with the first day of school on Wednesday, September 9.

Head of School Search Update
As we mentioned last week, our Head Search Committee is making progress on our plan towards landing a permanent Head of School for Soundview. Part of the internal vetting process is an on-site visit day where the search consultant meets with faculty, staff, and families to gain insight on the internal candidate. Your perspective as parents and families is an important part of this process. This will be taking place on Tuesday, February 24, from 2:15 to 3:00 pm. An anonymized survey will be sent for those who are unable to attend or who have additional feedback to share. Please for the live session to help us plan.

To read more about our process, search committee, and timeline, visit the Head of School Search page on our website.

Community Projects
Don’t forget! Grade 8 student, Sonya, is holding her supply drive to support her work with Seattle Children’s Hospital from March 2 to 6. Read this for more details.

Preparation for NWAIS Accreditation continues to be a focus for our administrative team and Board of Trustees. Erin Armstrong is leading us through the writing of a self-study that requires us to reflect on our practices in all areas of the school. The next milestone will be the preliminary visit on Wednesday, May 6. The chairs of our visiting team, Julie Lennox from Missoula International School and Yvan Tabellion from French Immersion School of Washington, will visit Soundview to ensure we are ready to move forward with the accreditation process. We feel ready and are excited for their visit!

Many of you have asked recently about the next steps for naming a permanent head of school. Our Board of Trustees established a formal Head Search Committee to steward this process. Please read Board President Shawn Heidel’s update on the head search. Families are invited to campus on Tuesday, February 24, to meet with the search consultant from 2:15 to 3:00. A link to RSVP will be in Tuesday’s Toddle Announcements and next Friday’s letter. Please join us and get involved in the process.

Plans are officially underway for the Soundview Spring Benefit on Saturday, March 28! This special evening brings our community together to support ³§´dzܲԻ屹¾±±ð·É’s mission. Your participation makes a meaningful difference for our students and programs.

Also, a huge thank you to Manager’s Pizza, our second Spring Benefit sponsor for this year’s event! We’re thrilled to partner with a valued local business to help make this year’s event truly meaningful and memorable. If you’d like to deepen your involvement by hosting a table or sponsoring part of the event to help offset the cost, please contact our Director of Advancement, Ryan Wasserman.

Community Projects
Grade 8 students are hard at work on their Community Projects, as are MYP students across the globe. The Community Project is a summative project that takes the skills, concepts, and habits developed throughout a Soundview education. Students develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning. The Community Project builds on the power of empathy and serves as the capstone service-learning project for students at Soundview. In the coming weeks, we’ll highlight students’ projects. Here’s a .

Fall semester progress reports were published today in Toddle. If you have trouble accessing your student's report or have questions, please reach out to their teacher directly.
